Not everyone has a skilled denim repairer down the road. Postal repair services fill the gap: you send your jeans off, they come back fixed. If you've never tried it, here's how it works.
How postal repair services work
- Choose the repair online and pay, or send photos for a quote.
- Pack and post your jeans to the service.
- They repair them, usually within one to two weeks.
- They post them back, ideally tracked.
How to pack your jeans
- Wash them first. Clean denim is easier to colour-match.
- Empty the pockets.
- Mark the damage with a safety pin or a note, especially if it's small.
- Include a note with your name, order number and anything special (for example "keep the distressed look").
- Use a padded bag or small box, and a tracked postage service.
What to check before choosing a service
- Do they specialise in denim? Heavy denim needs the right machines and colour-matched threads.
- Can you see real examples of their repairs?
- Turnaround time, and whether there's a faster option.
- Return postage: is it tracked?
- Clear pricing per repair, rather than vague quotes.
A UK example
As one example, Repair My Denim is a denim-only studio in Cambridge that takes jeans by post from across the UK. It works to a roughly 7-day turnaround, returns jeans by Royal Mail 48-hour tracked delivery, and offers a faster 48-hour option. Its how it works page walks through the process.
Getting alterations by post
Hemming and tapering work by post too. You just need to show the length or fit you want. See how to pin your jeans.
